I am often asked “what is the leading cause of childhood obesity?” and I think most people expect me to respond with one, clear, easy answer. There is not only one reason why 1 in 3 children are overweight.
Families struggling with weight issues and obesity typically don’t have the advanced degrees it takes to understand the chemical complexities of food and nutrition, but suburban hospitals might have a solution.
MELROSE PARK, Ill. (WLS) – A program called “Proactive Kids” is working to teach children and their families in west suburban Melrose Park how to make healthy changes.
Fearing that her then 8-year-old boy was at risk for developing diabetes, she had tried everything from having him work out with a personal trainer to meeting with a dietitian. Nothing had made a difference.
