Healthy active living in oak lawn, PARK RIDGE & wilmette

in partnership with advocate children's hospital ​​


proactive kids is offered as part of advocatE Children's hospitals' healthy active living (HAL). it is the group fitness, mental health and nutrition education component of hal. the kids will learn how to live a healthier lifestyle and then continue on with clinician visits after proactive kids ends. 

before STARTING THE PROGRAM, PARTICIPANTS WILL BE ASKED TO REGISTER FOR ADVOCATE'S HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING (HAL) PROGRAM. THE ENTIRE PROGRAM WILL TAKE PLACE OVER  6 MONTHS. YOU AND YOUR CHILD WILL WORK CLOSELY WITH A PHYSICIAN, DIETITIAN AND MENTAL HEALTH COACH. FOR the first 8 WEEKS of HAL, YOU WILL PARTICIpate IN PROACTIVE KIDS. 

ABOUT HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING (HAL)
HAL IS A SIX MONTH PROGRAM COMBINING PHYSICIAN VISITS WITH FITNESS AND NUTRITION EDUCATION IN A GROUP. YOUR DOCTOR WILL SET UP YOUR HEALTH PLAN AND IT WILL BE BASED ON THE STEPS BELOW:

  1. HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING APPOINTMENT AND ASSESSMENT 
  2.  ATTEND PROACTIVE KIDS 8 WEEK PROGRAM (3 DAYS PER WEEK) 
  3. FOLLOW UP VISITS WITH THE HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING TEAM EVERY 2 WEEKS FOR 8 WEEKS (4 VISITS TOTAL – 2 WITH DIETITIAN TO REVIEW NUTRITION AND ACTIVITY, 2 WITH THERAPIST TO REVIEW BEHAVIORS AND HABITS).
  4. FOLLOW UP WITH HEALTHY ACTIVE LIVING about every other week for four months seeing physician, mental health coach and dietitian.

the program is a commitment of time but your child's health is worth it. we ask you aim to attend 70% of classes, or 18 out of 24. fridays are very important for nutrition education. please take a close look at your calendar to ensure you can participate. 

MONDAY AND WEDNESDAY – 5:00 – 6:30 P.M. – KIDS ONLY
FITNESS: 5:00 – 5:45 P.M.
LIFESTYLE: 5:45 – 6:30 P.M.

FRIDAY FAMILY DAY -  5:00 – 7:00 P.M. 
FAMILIES ARE INVITED TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE 
(IF OVER THE AGE OF THREE YEARS OLD)
FITNESS: 5:00 – 5:40 P.M.
NUTRITION: 5:40 – 6:20 P.M.
LIFESTYLE: 6:20 – 7:00 P.M.
